Get ready for deeply caramelized milk teas from this Taiwanese chain
Tiger Sugar, the Taiwanese boba tea chain known for its milk teas served with caramelized brown sugar, will open its doors in Houston.
A representative for Bellaire Food Street tells Eater that the chain is set to make its Houston debut later this summer in the development at 9393 Bellaire Boulevard in Asiatown. It’s the second Texas shop for the chain, which was founded in Taiwan in 2017 and has since expanded to more than 40 locations across the globe, including outposts in Thailand, Canada, Malaysia, and the United States. Earlier this year, a location opened in the Dallas suburb of Carrollton to much fanfare.
Tiger Sugar’s most notable offering is its signature drink, a decadent milk tea that’s made with organic milk and spiked with “tiger stripes” of caramelized brown sugar down the sides of the cup, then crowned with cream mousse. The teas are also unique in that they contain a combination of tiny boba balls and larger tapioca pearls, which add a ton of interesting texture to the cup. Black tea lattes, green tea, and other drinks are also on the menu.
Tiger Sugar is set to host its grand opening on Labor Day weekend. Stay tuned for more details on its official debut.
