The Taco Stand is expected to arrive in the Heights later this fall with freshly made tortillas and all-day breakfast tacos
The brains behind Montrose institution The Burger Joint have a new taco restaurant in the works for the Heights.
Set to open at 2018 North Shepherd Drive later this fall, the Taco Stand will sling tacos, burritos and frozen drinks like margs with both dine-in service and via a drive-thru. Renderings show a list of the restaurant’s potential offerings painted on an outdoor wall, including lengua, chicharron, campechano and carnitas served on freshly made tortillas. Five different salsas will be made daily at the restaurant, along with an all-day menu of breakfast tacos.
In a press release, Taco Stand chef Mathew Pak explained that his love of traditional Mexican food inspired him to want to get into the taco business. To research the menu, Pak spent time last year traveling to Mexico City and Los Angeles in search of inspiration.
It’s been a busy year for Pak and his business partner Shawn Bermudez. In February, they opened the second location of their wildly popular hamburger spot, The Burger Joint, at 2002 North Shepherd Drive, just a skip away from The Taco Stand’s address. The original Burger Joint, which opened in 2015 on Montrose Boulevard, is an essential Houston burger spot, with options like kimchi burgers, lamb burgers, and boozy milkshakes.
No word yet on an exact opening date for the Taco Stand, but expect it to arrive sometime later this fall.
