Houstonian to compete on ‘Supermarket Sweep’ reboot
A Houston resident is slated to compete on the new reboot of the classic game show Supermarket Sweep this weekend. The episode, which stars Houstonian Rosie Nguyen alongside other contestants, is set to air November 1 at 7 p.m. on ABC. The TV show, which originally debuted is the 1960s but is best known for its run in the ‘90s, follows three teams of two as they compete against one another using their grocery shopping skills and knowledge of merchandise. The most recent reboot, hosted by Saturday Night Live alum Leslie Jones, premiered on October 18.
And if you need a little more motivation to watch, here’s Eater on the self-soothing nostalgia of the ‘90s original, especially during a pandemic. If you happen to miss Nguyen on this week’s episode, it’ll be available the next day on ABC on demand and Hulu.
Bread Man makes big moves outside Texas
Beloved breadmaker Bread Man Baking Company has a big expansion in the works. The bakery, whose breads were previously available only in the Houston area, is expanding throughout Texas and to Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas, thanks to a partnership with Whole Foods starting today, October 27. Four varieties of bread will be available in stores in those states, including pumpkin spice brioche, white chocolate orange challah, jalapeño sourdough, and chocolate cherry sourdough.
Humbled in Humble beer to benefit 100 Black Men
A new limited edition beer from Ingenious Brewing in Humble will benefit a nonprofit organization that helps educate and empower young Black men. Humbled in Humble Volume 1, a 10 percent pastry stout, is a collaboration with the microbrewery and longtime Houston brunch spot The Breakfast Klub, which provided the waffles that went into the brewing of the beer. Proceeds from the beer, available now at $22 per four-pack, benefit 100 Black Men chapters in both Houston and Austin. The Beer Chronicle, Hop Topic, The Pint Exchange, The Brew Brotha, & Brew Brothas Houston also collaborated on the project. The beer can be purchased in person at the brewery, or online here.
