Blood Bros. Barbecue gambles on Vegas expansion
Blood Bros., the restaurant that melds Houston-style barbecue with Viet-Cajun flavors in dishes like brisket fried rice and barbecue-topped bao buns, is expanding to Las Vegas, Eater Vegas reports. The restaurant will join others, like Nashville’s Prince’s Hot Chicken, at the under-construction Urban Street Food food hall, part of a $4.3 billion resort scheduled to open in summer 2021 on the north end of the Vegas Strip.
Houston Restaurant Weeks extended due to unprecedented interest
Houston Restaurant Weeks, the annual fundraiser benefitting the Houston Food Bank, has been extended through the end of September, according to a press release. The event, which was expected to run from August 1 to September 7, will now end on September 30. The decision comes after event organizers received overwhelmingly positive feedback about the economic impact HRW has had on the food and drink industry in Houston in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. More than 200 local restaurants are participating this year, many of them offering special take-out and delivery menus for the fundraiser.
Levain Bakery’s infamous cookies will soon be available in Houston grocery stores
The gigantic chocolate cookie that put Levain Bakery in New York City on the map is coming to Houston, according to CultureMap. The highly sought-after cookie will be available in frozen, warm-at-home form from Central Market stores starting later this month. Five minutes in the oven will turn the frozen treat into the perfectly gooey-chewy consistency the cookies at Levain’s New York shop are known for. Unfortunately, the frozen version of the cookie will be a normal snack-sized 2 oz cookie, not the 6 oz monster normally sold at the bakery. CultureMap reports that the cookies will come in four flavors: chocolate chip walnut, oatmeal raisin, two chip chocolate chip, and dark chocolate peanut butter chip.
