Common Bond adds second drive drive-thru location to Garden Oaks

Popular pastry shop Common Bond has announced plans to open a second On The Go location, this one in Garden Oaks, CultureMap reports. The drive-thru will offer the bakery’s croissants, breakfast pastries, coffee, sandwiches and food and wine to go out of 3210 N. Shepherd Drive. Common Bond’s first drive-thru concept opened in May in the space off Heights Boulevard formerly occupied by Sam’s Fried Chicken and Donuts, and has already proven a success in the era of coronavirus. The Garden Oaks location is expected to open in 2021.

Texas’s first Margaritaville Resort opens on Lake Conroe

The Margaritaville Lake Resort, the latest addition to Jimmy Buffet’s worldwide entertainment empire, has opened in Montgomery, TX. The resort, which boasts 303 rooms alongside 32 lakefront cottages complete with boat slips, opened Friday at 40 percent capacity, ABC13 reports. The getaway also includes a waterpark with a lazy river, an 18-hole golf course, and a Landshark Bar & Grill, along with several other bars scattered throughout the 186-acre property.

Velvet Taco’s Galleria opening is imminent

Eagle-eyes commenters on the Houston Architectural Information Forum have noticed that adult bookstore and longtime Houston institution Zone D’erotica has been mostly demolished. The shop, at the corner on 610 and Westheimer in the shadow of the Galleria, is slated to become a Velvet Taco, as Eater first reported a year ago. Meanwhile on Reddit, a user posted about the building’s history — it ‘s been a restaurant before. In the late 1960s, the address was a Roy Rogers restaurant, a fast food chain serving up roast beef and other bites. By the late 1980s, it was home to Luke’s Hamburgers, a locally-owned burger chain. Ahh, the circle of life.
